The Treats - Formed in 2006, four friends in Mount Pleasant put together a short set of songs to perform for a skatepark benefit. They never got their skatepark but they kept the momentum and The Treats were born. This rock band plays exclusively original material and is well-known for their strengths in story-telling style of song-writing.

Def-Kittie BlinDogg - formed in Iowa City 2011, they were originally a studio duo. DKBD played acoustic sets of their humorous to painfully honest songs until Fall 2012 when they recruited a bass player and drummer. Now, the four piece band has a modest but dedicated fan base that celebrates the funky energetic style DKBD brings to their shows.

Chris' Very Happy Band

Christopher Merz, saxophone; Mike Conrad, piano; Drew Morton, bass; Dave Tiede, drums

Let’s face it. Jazz has the reputation of being stuffy, impenetrable music that you have to know something to “get.” A bad inside joke, like the Elks lodge. The worst part of hipsterdom. Old, balding guys wearing sunglasses inside. AT NIGHT. Well, we hope to change your opinion about all of that.

The jubilant sound of Christopher’s Very Happy. Band. results from a combination of bright sounding compositions played with joyous abandon by its four members. Individually, their performance credits include the Umbria (Italy), Montreaux (Switzerland), Ozone (Switzerland), Guinness (South Africa) Twin Cities (Minneapolis) and Iowa City jazz festivals. All have interests and experiences across the gamut of current musical styles ranging from Classical to pop, electronica to soul. All of this experience comes to bear in their work together.

In addition to this aggregation, the members of CVH.B. perform together in COLOSSUS Central, a large jazz ensemble led by Mike Conrad, as well as a myriad of other groups you haven’t heard of. It is our fondest wish for this music to make you as happy as it makes us. Very Happy. Indeed.

Sunday, November 17th

Luke Redfield w/ Brave Julius

Join us for this special Sunday show! Another band that is being directed our way by Ryne Doughty - these guys are going to fill the JP's stage with some great music. Two guitars and one keyboard are in the works w/ Luke & Friends. Check out some of their stuff at:

  http://lukeredfield.bandcamp.com/

"The newest album from Minneapolis-based country-folk troubadour Luke Redfield has been a long time coming. Tusen Takk is a two-year collaboration with Jeremy Ylvisaker (who plays guitar in Andrew Bird’s touring band), and it features Twin Cities favorites like Dosh, Peter Pisano of Peter Wolf Crier, JoAnna James, and Haley Bonar. The album, which has already garnered a fair amount of buzz, is finally slated for release on Dream Song records in March 2012. Expect more of Redfield’s steadied honey tenor and amped-up production. His songwriting and affinity for Americana and roots music were large parts of his 2010 debut Epheremal Eon, but Tusen Takk may be a zoom out from traditional folk and country music, and an infusion of a broader, sweeping style."

This diversity is shown by openings at the Blue Note (Columbia, Missouri): for Saffire, The Uppity Blues Women, and Iris DeMent, who was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Folk Category. Val has also opened for Texas rock-blues legend-Bugs Henderson, blues pianist-Kelley Hunt, and singer/songwriters-Ferron and Melissa Ferrick. - See more at:

This will be the third time we've had the pleasure of hosting Danika & Jeb. If you haven't had the opportunity to hear them, don't miss out on this show! If you have heard them before, we'll look forward to seeing you again.

“Danika Holmes is a rising star in the heartland!” says Bill Sullivan of The Rock and Roll Report. American Picker Mike Wolfe of The History Channel says, “She’s a true American talent… I couldn’t stop listening!” Music critics agree that Danika is charming and energetic with a welcoming tone in her voice which is as gentle as a breeze.

Danika grew up in a family of five kids. She says, “I was a little rag-a-muffin who tromped around in hand me down clothes and spent every free minute building projects with my dad or creating something, anything, from fashions to songs and dances.” Now more than ever, Danika is happy to be creating. Her passion for music and her life experiences lend the inspiration for her songs that reverberate with hope. Onstage Danika delivers her tunes with extreme vibrance, both inspiring and entertaining.

You Knew Me When

We are excited to have this folk-indie rock duo, including Iowa Native, Karisa, from Clear Lake, play at our venue!
The music of You Knew Me When parades between a fusion of progressive indie-rock and folky compositions all infused with a myriad of pulsing and stirring beats. Muen Magazine stated, “You Knew Me When has written a record that could potentially be the next big thing to the masses, just like what The Civil Wars did and what The Avett Brothers are currently doing.” While blending their vocals, Karisa, who until recently served as a Nashville public school music teacher, provides the piano, ukulele, and glockenspiel, as Cie, who spent several years as the Global Events Production Manager for Gibson Guitar, supplies the guitar and rhythmic nuances. The cumulative result is a musical style that blends a singer-songwriter soul with a pop/rock mentality.

"If you're a fan of groups like Matt Costa, The Shins, The Postal Service, The Decemberists and Coldplay, then you simply must check out You Knew Me When."
-Jon C Owens, Booking Coordinator, Acoustic E.N

Since his debut in Las Vegas, Don “Donzilla” Tjernagel has fine-tuned his show. After a brief period of dormancy, Tjernagel has continued to add to and update bits and pieces to his routine. Now Don “Donzilla” Tjernagel has created a monster of a show for those willing to sit down and watch as he deconstructs long held institutions with his dirty sense of humor.

Terry McCauley

A heavy dose of ‘60s and ‘70s pop and rock ballads is what you would expect to hear at a Terry McCauley show. His voice and acoustic guitar cover tunes from the likes of America, Bee Gees, John Denver, Neil Diamond, Herman’s Hermits, REO Speedwagon, ELO, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot and Harry Chapin. While his guitar is usually all he needs, McCauley occasionally turns into a tambourine man or asks for help from the audience. The one-man show also turns into a group act with guest singers and musicians. Performing throughout Eastern Iowa for more than 15 years, McCauley has been a mainstay at the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival the past 12 years and the Lisbon Sauerkraut Days the past nine. McCauley’s repertoire is impressive. He brings well over 300 songs to a show and recently performed nine straight three and a half-hour shows, without repeating a song.
